SLT Weekly Update 021216
5th December 2016
This week’s blog is a single-issue edition.
We are extremely proud of the quality of education we offer at Melbourn Village College and the excellent progress that students make as a result.
We recently received information about how progress at MVC compares with that of other schools in the country. Students here achieved half a grade higher per GCSE than similar ability students nationally. As a result, the overall progress of the school is in the top 9% nationally; a fantastic validation of what we do every day.
As parents you may already be aware that we have a tradition of excellent English and Maths performance, with both departments being amongst the best in the country for student progress. After four years in the top 10%, our Maths department has just been ranked in the top 5% for the second year running. This, combined with our English department being in the top 13% nationally and Humanities reaching the top 10%, has laid the foundations for our excellent overall progress.
Indeed, based on the number of Year 11 students who achieved A*-C in GCSE Maths and English from their starting point when they joined the college, our results put us in the top 1% in the country. This means Melbourn Village College is one of the top thirty to forty schools on this measure, an achievement of which the whole school and wider community can be justifiably proud.
Something which was equally satisfying was to find out that all ability groups, including SEN and disadvantaged, made above average progress. This reaffirmed that the benefits of a Melbourn Village College education are being shared across all students. It is this focus on each individual, our core belief that ‘Everybody is Somebody’, that has resulted in our 2016 results and it is that which continues to drive us forwards to the benefit of all current and future students.
