SLT Weekly Roundup
20th January 2017
- Our Year 11 Parents’ Evening on Tuesday was extremely well attended and we thank our parents for their on-going support.
- Year 7 dancers have been working hard in enrichment on a Wednesday afternoon. We are currently working on a contemporary routine to Ed Sheeran's new song 'Castle on the Hill'. Year 7 dance will continue after half term due to the short term. Please be aware there is no session next week as Miss Douglas is working with the Jitterbugs for a Wizard of Oz rehearsal!
- Several of our Year 8 students are currently attending the Royal Institute Maths Masterclasses at Cambridge University. Mr Holder went to see them last Saturday at Trinity Hall College, where they were working on mathematical origami. It was good to see that our students joined the select band of people who are able to make a stellated octahedron out of paper! Here are Cameron and Ben holding their octahedrons.
- On Thursday and Friday this week, we welcomed the Director of Education across the Trust and colleagues from St Peter’s, Comberton and Cambourne Village Colleges to carry out our CAMAT Review. The feedback from this peer-to-peer evaluation is an incredibly useful part of our school improvement programme and we thank all the staff who were involved in this process. Later this term and next term, Mr Holmes, Mr Barnes and I will be participating in a similar process at the other Trust schools.
- As part of our PSHE on Wednesday, our year 7 students undertook a wide variety of activities to support them with their careers education, including doing a ‘What’s My Line?’ activity with local employers, who explained about different opportunities available.
- Also on Wednesday, all Year 9 students had the chance to visit Anglia Ruskin University for guidance on choosing their options and thinking about their future, when they attended an event called ‘Eyes on the Prize’. Students were given a tour of the ARU campus, a session on student life and were able to talk to staff from local sixth forms and employers at a careers fair, so that they could ask questions about subjects and courses they might like to study in the future. This is the start of the options process for Year 9s and they will be able to find out more about the GCSE subjects on offer at Melbourn Village College at their Options Evening on Tuesday 7th February at 7.00pm.
- All Year 11 students have submitted their sixth form applications and are awaiting their guidance meeting dates. Please remind students to keep checking the contact email addresses they gave on their applications.
Cambridge Regional College meetings will take place week commencing 27th February.
Hills Road will conduct as many meetings as possible on 6th February and then any that haven’t been fitted in on that date will continue throughout February. Students should not read anything into this – it just depends on the availability of staff for the subjects applied for.
Long Road will be calling students in for guidance meetings on an ongoing basis from January to April.
Netherhall have two main meeting dates which are 24th and 27th February
We wish students good luck in their guidance meetings with sixth form staff. Year 11s have had interview practice with a number of employers on PSHE days, so need to remember the lessons learned: dress smartly, make good eye contact with their interviewer and remember to be friendly and enthusiastic, the interviewer will appreciate that you are nervous and will do their best to help you to relax!
Have a lovely weekend.
