SLT Update May 26

26th May 2017

  • Our year 8 Spanish students have now returned from their Spanish immersion visit. They enjoyed a wide range of activities, including getting to know Spanish students, dancing Flamenco or playing football with them, studying Spanish with Spanish teachers, visiting local areas of interest, swimming, a treasure hunt and sampling the local cuisine. The students were attentive, interested in the activities and impeccably behaved. Many thanks to Mrs Stanley for organising such a successful trip and to Mr Sunderland for providing valuable support.
  • This week has been a very busy time for our Sports Leaders. Our new Year 9 leaders have been used for the first time for the SSP Year 3/4 mini-red tennis competition, helped by some experienced Year 10 leaders. Our School Sports Coordinator reported that they did a brilliant job and were a real credit to themselves and the College. A huge thank you to all of you. On Wednesday and Thursday, a team of Sports Leaders attended local primary sports days at Melbourn and Fowlmere, working hard in the hot sun! They continue to be needed after half term with many other festivals including kwik cricket, mini Olympics and multi-skills.

  • The  Year 7s and 9s had their first athletics meet this week at St. Bedes and we had a number of successes:-

Josh Biddlecombe 2nd in 800M

Matt Pinney - 2nd in 1500M

Toby Jackson 1st in 100M

Dexter Todd 3rd in High Jump

Katie Foulger - 1st in High Jump

Daisy Moxham - 1st in shot

Morgan Robson - 3rd in 300M

We hope to have more successes in the Olympic Cup event after half term.

  • On Tuesday afternoon we were delighted to welcome some Chinese visitors to the College from our exchange school in China. They enjoyed a tour of the school and had the chance to talk to the Chinese students about their experience of studying here.
  • Several of our year 9 and 10 students have had the opportunity to enjoy a taste of higher education through a trip to Oxford University today. They took part in some English and Science Taster Sessions and had a tour around the College. They visited the Natural History Museum in the afternoon.
  • We were delighted to welcome back ex-student, Katya Loukina, on Wednesday, who shared her experiences studying French at university and travelling and working abroad. It was also great to talk to Katya about living in Lyon, where I lived too! Hearing the experiences of ex-students is always inspiring for our current students, so do get in touch, if you are able to assist in this way.
  • Today, we are delighted to be able to give our year 9 and 10 students the chance to get to grips with our new TextReader software, which will use IT to support them in being able to access texts independently, so raising achievement both in class and in their future examinations.
  • Now that the weather is improving, please remind your children to bring suntan lotion, a hat, plenty of water and to seek shade where possible, especially if outside and doing physical activity.

Have a good weekend.

Regina Lawrence

Deputy Principal
