SLT Update May 25th 2018
25th May 2018
* Last weekend, Ruby Want, Hattie Henry and Daisy King represented their club, Cambridge City, in cup finals. Ruby and Hattie played for the U13s against Coton and won 3-2, Ruby scoring the winning goal. Daisy played for the U12s, beating the Panthers. Well done, girls.
* Ruby Want also went for trials for Arsenal U14s and has got through to the next round. We wish her all the best in the next trial after half term.
* On Sunday, Will Arthur helped out with the Hoohaah 10K run which took place at Wimpole Hall, with the following comment from a finish line volunteer, ‘The Sports Leaders from Cambourne and Melbourn VC were a credit to their schools. They were polite, helpful and took the initiative without being cocky. It was very hard to believe they are only Y9.’
* Congratulations to Skye Pearson and Remy Harrow, who have just had their sagas published in the Stranger Sagas anthology for young writers. We hope that this is the start of a glittering literary career.
* Congratulations to Emily Jelley, who received an award for ‘Most Improved Player’ at the Cambridge Satellite Netball Awards this week. Emily will be trying out for the county team in the next few weeks, so we wish her luck.
* On Tuesday and Thursday, year 9 Sports Leaders helped with Melbourn and Fowlmere annual sports days. They helped run activity stations and track races, set up and cleared up the event and generally helped the primary staff out. Many thanks to all who helped. We’ve also received these comments from Fowlmere: ‘Thank you so much for bringing your Sports’ Leaders to Fowlmere Sports Day. We couldn’t have done it without them. They were really helpful with a great attitude and also helped with giving out programmes and moving chairs as well as the events. They were fantastic and a real credit to you and the school.’
* On Wednesday, year 7&9 athletics teams went to St. Bedes. Despite the cold weather, they all did well. Special mention goes to Vicky Kay who came 1st in the 200M, and Daisy Moxham who won the shot with a throw of 8.05M in the year 9 competition.
* Our year7 Mandarin Excellence Programme students have been enjoying 3 days of intensive Chinese. On Tuesday they visited the British Museum in London, where they saw some amazing displays of Chinese artefacts. This was followed by an authentic Chinese lunch in Chinatown. On Wednesday, they worked with our visiting Chinese students to research various Chinese festivals and present to the rest of the group in Chinese. Thursday was spent making lanterns, cooking moon cakes and learning how to use chopsticks. Many thanks to Mrs Reeves for organising these activities.
* As there is much interest in girls football at the moment, Mrs Patel will be running a year 7&8 girls enrichment club from 3-4pm on Thursdays after half term. Please see Mrs Humphrey or Mrs Patel if interested and not already signed up.
* The Language Perfect World Championships competition is well under way and our students have already gained certificates. Keep it up.
* Today, Mrs Mayhead and year 8 have had a wonderful time in the village, looking at different types of rocks used and the weathering of them. Excellent behaviour and engagement from year 8 too.
* Also today, over 100 year 7 and 8 students have enjoyed a Science/History trip to Warwick Castle. More on this next time.
* Mr Barnes, Mr Reynolds and I have thoroughly enjoyed interviewing for our new prefects this week and know that we have an excellent team. We look forward to those for our Head Team next term.
* Finally, our year 11 students have now celebrated the end to their time in school with ice creams and a bouncy castle. We wish them every success with the rest of their exams and look forward to their prom on 29th June.
Have a wonderful half term break.
