SLT Update May 17th

17th May 2019

  • Well done to all our pupils who took part in the Society of Biology challenge during Science Week.  Over 47,000 pupils in 523 schools took part and our pupils did very well indeed. Most notable was Ben Woodrow, who gained a gold award, and has entered the draw to collect the award in person. Certificates will be given out in upcoming assemblies.
  • Thank you so much to all parents, carers and students who have sent emails, cards and presents to us following our safe return from a slightly longer than anticipated Spanish immersion visit. We finally arrived home on Friday evening to cheers, applause and lots of thank yous, which the staff really appreciated. The actual trip itself was fantastic, with a great mix of language, culture, great food and relaxation. Well done to all students on their strength and resilience in those final unexpected days.

  • Congratulations to Harriet Henry and Ruby Want, who participated in the Futsal Cup Football Tournament at St George’s Park, home of England, last weekend. To get to these finals, they had to win local and regional Futsal competitions and have travelled many miles to achieve this. They played Plymouth Aspire in the under-14s Final, for which the girls were playing a year up, so the opposition was very physical.  It was a tough final, but Cambridge City won 3-1. This was a great achievement for the girls and they have made memories that will last forever.
  • Congratulations to Keira Wilmott, Olivia Cooper and Amber McCarthy, who competed in the South Cambs Schools Gymnastics Competition on Wednesday. Amber won the KS4 Elite competition and Olivia came 2nd in the KS3 novice.

  • Our Yr7 and Yr9 athletics teams built on the successes of other year groups this week with an impressive start to their first of two friendly competitions. Winners were Gethin Rogers (Yr9 1500m), Jack Beasley (Yr7 javelin), Jasmine Wollison (Yr7 100m), Annabelle Helme (Yr7 100m), Alexa Hurrell (Yr7 javelin). Roll on the Olympic Cup next month!!

  • Sophie Paterson and Grace Bristow-Hill took part in the Translation Bee Regional Final Competition in Peterborough on Tuesday this week, performing fantastically and making us very proud. Unfortunately, the girls didn't make it to the National Final, as the level was so high. However, they had a fantastic time, enjoying the chance to be with so many other students from different schools across the area and experience the taste of German and French as well.

  • Congratulations to Josh Bream, who came runner up in The Immerse Education Technology Competition this week. Josh has been awarded a scholarship for a 2-week summer school. A fantastic achievement.
  • Following their practice expeditions, our Duke of Edinburgh bronze students are en route to Matlock for their assessed expedition is this weekend. They have worked hard on their preparation, so good luck for this final test.

Have a great weekend.
