2nd March 2018
Senior Leadership Weekly Round-Up
2nd March 2018
ï‚· Well done to our year 9 Language Leaders; 8 students did their first language lesson to pupils in Barrington and Melbourn Primary Schools this week. The students prepared their lesson extremely well, showing an excellent understanding of how to ensure progress in a language lesson. Good luck to those teaching in Fowlmere next week.
ï‚· Due to the weather conditions, the High 5 B team tournament on Monday was postponed. We hope to be able to replay it again soon.
ï‚· On Tuesday, our year 8 badminton players and year 7 table tennis team travelled to Cottenham to play in the local tournament. Considering the year 8s were playing students a year older, they did very well. The year 8 boys came 3rd out of 4 and the 8 girls came 2nd out of 3. The table tennis team were winners by default, which means they qualify for the next round and represent South Cambs SSP 22nd March in St Neots. Get as much practice as you can over the next 3 weeks, boys!
ï‚· Congratulations to Victoria Kay, Jenny Elliott and Ryan Merrick, who all achieved a gold certificate in the UK Mathematics Trust 2018 challenge. Congratulations also to the many other students who achieved silver and bronze certificates.
ï‚· From 9.30am to 12.30pm on Tuesday, 13th March, there is a free event for parents / carers of students who have difficulty processing everyday sensory information: This SENDIASS event is at Wood Green Animal Centre, PE29 2NH. There will be seminars on how parents can help, how computers and information technology can help and what to expect from schools and local authorities.
ï‚· Next week sees the next round of the High 5 A Team Tournament on Tuesday, with local primary schools attending and sports leaders running and umpiring.
ï‚· In September 2016, we became the first school in Cambridgeshire to have Mandarin as part of our year 7 curriculum. We have recently been highlighted nationally as a great example of a school where Mandarin has been successfully introduced. See this link for more details. http://www.melbournvc.org/news/article/Mandarin-Success-Story
ï‚· As some of you will know, year 6 parents and children found out this week which school they will be going in September 2018. We are delighted that so many have chosen MVC and look forward to welcoming what will be our largest year group, continuing our recent expansion.
ï‚· Thank you to all parents and carers for your support in enabling students to carry on school as normal this week.
Have a good weekend.
