SLT Update July 7

7th July 2017

Senior Leadership Weekly Round-Up – 7th July 2017

  • Last Saturday, Rory Walker and Cameron Shepherd were invited to represent MVC at the Celebration Masterclass for Secondary Mathematics at the Royal Institute in London. They were set challenges and puzzles, had a go at modelling climate change, worked out numbers on bar codes, etc., all with the aim of highlighting the applications of maths beyond the classroom. (Parents also had a ‘Masterclass’, where they modelled the progression of an infectious disease and investigated probability through 'Play Your Cards Right’.). They all had a fantastic time.
  • Penny Lowe and Lucy Dickinson did some great teaching in our feeder primary schools again this week as part of their Language Leader Award. Well done to both.
  • In March, 70 MVC students took part in the Royal Society of Biology's "Biology Challenge", with over 40,000 students taking part nationally. Of our 49 students who received awards, Daniel Arthur, Matthew Booth-Brown, Sam Forbes and Toby Walker achieved a Gold award. This week, they were invited to a special awards ceremony in London to celebrate their success - a huge congratulations to these students and we hope they had an interesting day!
  • This week, the sports leaders have supported both the Harston and Hauxton Primary School Sports Days. They all had a good time and should be commended on their hard work over the summer term too.
  • Congratulations to Emily Jelley and Daisy Moxham, who have been selected for the Cambridgeshire Satellite Netball Academy. They have worked incredibly hard and their place in the squad is well deserved.
  • Thanks so much to the year 7s, who have supported Chloe Jackson on Wednesdays this term with a transition sports club for year 6 pupils from our feeder primary schools.
  • The final inter form activity of the year is next Tuesday, when we will all be participating in a variety of athletic activities for our annual Sports day. Hope the sun shines!
  • Many thanks to all the extra staff who have helped out in a number of sports enrichment activities this term. The PE department couldn’t have done it without you!
  • Today was the last day of teaching before our year 10 students go on their work experience placement. We hope you have a great time and look forward to visiting you and seeing the photos when you return on Friday, 21st July.
  • If you’re looking for something to do over the summer, do see our MVC Facebook page for information on summer rugby and tennis camps.

Have a wonderful weekend.
