SLT Update January 19th
19th January 2018
ï‚· I would firstly like to thank all parents for their support and cooperation with yesterday’s emergency closure. This was not a decision we took lightly but no electricity meant no hot food in the canteen, no hot water, no heating/lighting and, after a number of hours, no fire alarm (the system has a back-up battery for shorter power outages). We eventually had power restored to the site at around 5:30pm. We appreciate your support in these difficult circumstances.
ï‚· Our talented swimmers had a good weekend at different events. Daisy Moxham attended the county championships and gained GOLD in her age group for 100 & 200M Freestyle. She also gained a BRONZE in 100M backstroke. Jake Moxham attended an Open Competition in Sheffield and managed to get ‘Personal Bests’ in 50/100/200M Freestyle and 50/100M Butterfly. Congratulations to both students.
ï‚· At a recent fixture, the KS4 basketball team played well and beat Bottisham VC but unfortunately lost to Netherhall and Cottenham. Man of the match was Will Jones.
ï‚· Please can students going on the ski trip hand in their spending money in Euros to the Finance Officer or ski trip leaders.
ï‚· On Wednesday we had a very successful PSHE day. I spent the day with Yr8 and the Careers team where students were designing and promoting new products or services in a ‘Dragons Den’ type event. They were supported by Form the Future and by a number of external volunteers from the Business World. As always, it is fantastic to be able to provide our students the chance to work with such expertise. All of our visitors were extremely complementary about the students they worked with.
ï‚· The Cambridge greenway project is running events which are looking to gather information to improve walking and cycling in this area. There are 12 routes that will be designed, linking villages with Cambridge City. These include a Melbourn and Comberton route that may serve MVC students and parents. The project would value input from all interested parties; please see the flyer below or visit the Greenways project page.
Have a good weekend,
Simon Holmes
