SLT Update February 9th

ï‚· Our pottery enrichment club have spent the first part of this term making Valentine’s boxes (see picture) – they can be very proud of their work which looks fantastic.
ï‚· On Thursday we had a very successful PSHE day, covering a range of different topics and inviting in a range of external experts to enhance the day and ensure that MVC students get the best possible education.
ï‚· Also on Thursday was one of our regular Governor meetings. Amongst the items for discussion were strategic plans and aims for moving the school to outstanding and for accommodating the rising numbers we are currently experiencing as more families choose MVC for their children. Year 7 has been five classes since Christmas and Year 8 is moving in the same direction. In a few weeks we will find out our numbers for next September’s intake as well.
ï‚· This morning a group of over 40 students and accompanying staff left us for our Ski trip. They are facing a long coach journey to Flattach Austria, followed by an activity-packed week on the slopes.
ï‚· Ten students have today taken part in the level 3 Bikeability course. This course is the National Standard for cycling and aims to develop competent cycling skills on busier, more complex roads. The course emphasises the importance of a positive attitude towards sharing the road with other traffic. Building an understanding of how to interact effectively with other road users in various situations is essential. Trainees are encouraged to make informed independent decisions under the guidance of the instructor.
ï‚· We are very pleased to report that the three University of Bedfordshire students who completed their first teaching practice under the mentorship of MVC staff have now all accepted teaching posts across the county. We were so pleased to have been able to help train them for the start of what we are sure will be an excellent career in teaching. Congratulations, Sophie Hilton (PE), Evie Robertshaw (History) and Dr Julian Johnson (Science).
