Mandarin Success Story

1st March 2018

Melbourn Village College has been highlighted nationally as great example of a school where a Chinese language has been successfully introduced into the curriculum.

In September 2016 the college became the first school in Cambridgeshire to have Mandarin as part of its Year 7 curriculum and now their efforts are the subject of an in-depth on-line article from the respected Institute of Education at University College, London.

The article – which can be read in full at the link below – outlines the rationale behind Melbourn’s decision to roll out Mandarin, the immediate success and the continuing growth which has seen them to this year becoming part of the IOE’s Mandarin Excellence Progamme.

It also includes tips from Melbourn Principal Simon Holmes for other schools thinking of introducing the language and an interview with the college’s popular specialist Mandarin teacher Frank Fan.
