Graffiti Learning
25th January 2017
Students at Melbourn Village College have been covering their desks with graffiti – and the teacher is delighted.
In what would usually be seen as a clear flouting of school rules, a group of Year 8 students learning Spanish have been given the go-ahead to write on their desks, using special washable pens.
The lesson is the brainchild of Modern Languages teacher Ivana Stanley who has found it is a quick way to spot common mistakes, which could then be corrected and copied into exercise books.
And there was no waste of the work – the Year 10 class who followed started their lesson by translating the younger students’ words and phrases.
Mrs Stanley said: “My Year 8 class wrote on the desks then put it into their books. It is a good way of me seeing common errors, plus they really enjoyed being a bit ‘naughty’. The Year 10 starter was then to translate the tables.”
