GCSE success
16th August 2016
The percentage of Melbourn students achieve at least five A*-C grades at GCSE including Maths and English rose dramatically this summer.
This summer’s results were almost 20% up on a year earlier to the obvious delight of Principal Simon Holmes.
“Congratulations to all of our students who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve these results – and, of course, we also want to recognise our dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to support our students.”
Overall 69% of students achieve the five A*-C grades including maths and English. Progress levels were also impressive with 85% making at least three levels of progress in English and maths, of whom 58% made four levels of maths progress.
A number of subjects reported 100% A*-C grades. These were art and design, biology, dance, ECDL, health and social care, Ingots and resistant materials. Subjects with 90%-plus A*-C were catering, constructions and statistics, while chemistry, geography, maths and physics reported an 80%-plus success rate while three-quarters of English and media students gained A*-C grades.
Laura Bartholeme, Rebecca Bystry, Carys Davies, Jack Greenwood, Emma McMorran, Amy Selby and Alice West all achieved six or more A* and A grades, but there were brilliant success stories all over the ability range.
